The Early Phase

Home Up

The 64 bypass must cross Crabtree Creek. At the same location, the two ends of Rogers Lane will be spliced together by a bridge that crosses the route 64 bridge over Crabtree Creek. It's a bridge over a bridge. Work started in November of 2002.

This is the site of the Crabtree Creek crossing in early November, 2002 looking east toward Knightdale.

And from the same spot, looking north, this is the path for the Rogers lane linkup. Late Dec. 2002.

Before you can build a bridge for cars, you have to build a bridge for the construction equipment.

First, start with lots of these...

....and one of these. It's a pile driver - a one cylinder diesel engine! Check out the links below for a very interesting description.

Driving a pile.

Pound a few piles, cap them and attach some "I" beams and you've got the foundation of a work platform.

A platform foundation.

Cover the foundation with heavy planking and you've got a platform over the water that supports your heaviest equipment ......
