HBX & KT34

Home Up

Set up the winch.

All this has to come down. A 70cm yagi, a 2 meter yagi, the big KT34XA and 48 feet of Rohn HBX tower.

Starting up.

Removing a small side arm that supported an inverted V.

Unclamping the KT34XA.

Free of the mast and starting down.

My XYL, Sharon, KD4ACK AKA the "winch wench". The winch eases the logistics of tower work by replacing a multi-man ground crew.

While HBX isn't the most comfortable tower to climb, the lack of guys greatly simplifies the antenna work.

Down without a problem.

All disassembled and ready to go.

The 2 element yagi is ready to lower.

Lower away!

Lower the mast to access the 70cm yagi.

The last antenna coming down.

Lower the gin pole and break the top section free. The winch is holding the top section.

Ease it down!

Next to last section. The bottom section is bolted just above the concrete pad.

Finish up by grinding off the steel anchors embedded in the concrete.
